I have an angel in heaven who I call my son. Who I love and miss so dearly.
Justin life was not the easiest. He had to overcome many obstacles, besides living with Tourette’s syndrome. Which is not an easy thing to deal with. People never understood why he would do or say the things he did. Especially in the younger years even grade school, where he received a lot of criticism and bullying. He worked very hard to learn how to cope with this mentality of others. He endured many injuries and hardship throughout his life. For his 20th birthday he found out he had Hodgkin’s lymphoma. But none of this would stop him from helping others, He received so much pleasure out of helping people. This included anything from opening a door for someone to saving a little boy from drowning. There would always be a big smile upon his face, when he saw how grateful someone was for his help. He just loved to make people happy and laugh. He had so much trust and faith in people almost to the point he was naive. His favorite thing to do was to workout by lifting weights and working on his vehicles. Not even over 2 years of chemo and radiation would stop him from these activities and kindness. Lifting weights was his way of coping with the world. Which made him quite big. People would look at him twice or even stare and he would always say “what are they staring at”? I would say Justin look at the size of you.
Everyone who knows Justin says he was nothing but a big teddy bear with a huge heart and gave the best bear hugs in the world.
Justin had the worst luck of anybody I know physically and with people, right up to the moment he collapsed on the sidewalk while working in Columbus. Someone stole his phone and wallet instead of calling for an ambulance. Thank God a couple who found him called 911. As this was very unusual for Justin to just disappear, we looked for him for two days before we finally found him in Riverside Hospital. He was brain dead and hooked up to life support. I feel as though God took him to save him from future heartbreak and pain.
Justin went through EMT training and wanted to continue education to be a paramedic for the fire department to save lives. So being an organ donor for him was a no-brainer. Hopefully his donations will save others.
Everybody here today please become an organ donor, to help others in need or save a life. And don’t forget the necessity of telling others about becoming an organ donor as it is very important.
